Department of Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering
General Information

The department started with the inception of the college in the year 2000. It has adequate number of well-qualified and experienced faculty and staff members specialized in different fields of electrical engineering such as Electrical Machines, Power systems, Control systems, Power Electronics, Electric Drives, etc. Eminent professors from different universities and engineering institutes also regularly visit the department as guest professors. The Department maintains an amicable atmosphere to enhance the process of teaching & learning. The department has well equipped laboratories with updated version of modern software and hardware modules.

The laboratories include Electrical Machine lab, Power System lab, Power Electronics lab, Measurement lab, Control System lab, Electrical Drives lab, Circuit Theory lab. There is also a separate computer lab for the Dept. Students can work and carry on their experiments in these laboratories under the guidance of experienced Teachers and competent Laboratory Assistants. These Laboratories are also used by students for Project work comprising of hardware/software modeling.

The department maintains its own library (as part of the central library) to facilitate students and staff for getting easy access to specified books & journals.

To enhance learning, the department regularly organizes seminars and workshops in which eminent speakers from other engineering institutes and industries are invited to train our students.

As part of the curriculum all students are exposed to real life industrial experience by the way of industrial training, internships and industrial visits/ trips.

Students of the department are encouraged to take part in various co-curricular and extra-curricular events both inside and outside the institute. Students of Electrical Engineering department have been champions in inter-departmental football, cricket, badminton tournaments in the recent past. Many prizes have been won by our students in technical fests both in house and in other institutes.

Students of the department have shown excellent academic performance over the years. They have been university rank holders and a number of them have taken up higher studies in India & abroad by qualifying in GATE, CAT, GRE, IELTS, TOEFL. Ex-students of the department are employed in reputed organizations that include CTS, Infosys, TCS, WBSEDCL, etc.

Departmental faculties take part in active research in thrust areas of machine condition monitoring and diagnosis, control & analysis of electrical machines, design of power electronic converters, power system security and renewable energy system. The dept. carried out a DST, government of WB sponsored project on Renewable Energy.

A Renewable Energy Club was set up by the college as per guidance of WBREDA. Students’ Chapter of Institute of Engineers (India) was formed in the academic year 2018-19. Various co-curricular activities like workshop, seminar etc. are being organized in every semester.
